# WhatsApp Pricing Update

> Learn about Meta's latest WhatsApp Business API pricing updates and actionable strategies to optimize your conversation costs on ChatbotX.

Starting **1 October 2026**, Meta is officially changing how messages sent through the WhatsApp Business API are priced. These changes will directly impact how messages within the 24-hour customer service window are billed.

This guide explains what is changing in Meta's pricing structure and how you can leverage ChatbotX tools to optimize your operational budget.

## Details of Pricing Changes

Meta is introducing per-message charges for **Service messages (free-form)** and **Utility templates** sent **within the 24-hour customer service window**. Prior to this date, both message types were completely free within the 24-hour window.

### Pricing within the 24-hour Customer Service Window

| Message Type                    | Before 1 Oct 2026    | From 1 Oct 2026                  |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------- | -------------------------------- |
| **Service message (free-form)** | Free to send | Charged per message |
| **Utility template** | Free to send | Charged per template |
| **Marketing template** | Charged per template | Charged per template (no change) |
| **Authentication template** | Charged per template | Charged per template (no change) |

<Note>
  Outside the 24-hour window, the rules remain unchanged: you can only send pre-approved Template Messages, and charges are applied based on their respective template category.
</Note>

## Why This Is Changing

This is a **global policy update from Meta**, applying equally to all businesses worldwide using the WhatsApp Business API, regardless of the software platform you use.

<Warning>
  This change is a direct platform fee charged by Meta, **not a change to your ChatbotX subscription pricing**.

## 7 Strategies to Optimize Costs on ChatbotX

To prepare effectively and maintain control over your WhatsApp messaging expenses when the new policy takes effect, you can implement the following strategies in ChatbotX:

### 1. Streamline Chatbot Flows

Review and optimize your automated chatbot flows. Instead of sending multiple short, fragmented text messages, consolidate questions and information into fewer, high-value messages. This significantly reduces the volume of billable service messages per conversation.

### 2. Collect Information with WhatsApp Flows

Use **WhatsApp Flows** to build rich, interactive forms directly inside the chat window. Customers can submit contact details, select services, or schedule appointments in a single form message instead of exchanging 5 to 6 back-and-forth text messages.

### 3. Optimize Quick Replies and List Messages

Configure Quick Reply buttons and List Messages strategically to categorize common customer inquiries. This helps customers select their desired topic immediately, eliminating unnecessary follow-up questions.

### 4. Maximize the 72-Hour Free Entry Point

When a customer initiates a conversation by clicking a Call-to-Action button on a Facebook/Instagram Click-to-WhatsApp (CTWA) Ad or a Page messaging button:

* Meta waives all service and template message fees for the first **72 hours**.
* Plan your bot automation and agent follow-ups to resolve customer inquiries completely within this 72-hour free window.

### 5. Enable WhatsApp Coexistence

ChatbotX supports **WhatsApp Coexistence**, allowing you to connect the Cloud API for bot automation while continuing to use the WhatsApp Business mobile app:

* Your human support team can respond to everyday inquiries directly through the WhatsApp Business mobile app at no extra cost.
* ChatbotX will only trigger automated messages when necessary.

<Note>
  See our step-by-step guide on [WhatsApp Coexistence](/docs/channels/whatsapp/whatsapp-coexistence).
</Note>

### 6. Update Guidelines for AI Agents and Staff

If you deploy **AI Agents** for automated WhatsApp support:

* Set clear System Prompts so the AI provides concise, direct, and actionable answers.
* Set a limit on automated response turns before gracefully handing over the conversation to a human agent.

### 7. Route Conversations Across Multiple Channels

ChatbotX is an omnichannel platform. For long-term nurturing or general inquiries, you can route conversations to cost-effective channels such as Webchat, Facebook Messenger, Zalo OA, or Instagram.
